The DOL, HHS and the Treasury Department have issued final rules implementing the 2008 Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA). These rules are designed to expand coverage of mental health and substance abuse in general, and ensure that health plan coverage is not more restrictive for mental health and substance abuse than for other medical benefits. Note that the Mental Health Parity rules generally apply to employers with at least 50 employees.
