The Affordable Care Act now requires health insurance
companies to cover routine costs for clinical trial participants, the American
Society of Clinical Oncology reminded clinicians in educational materials about
the provision it released Feb. 4.
The group is concerned, it said, because "the federal
government has not yet issued regulations to guide implementation of the new
law," and, at least so far, has characterized it as a "self-implementing"
statute that insurers are "expected to implement ... using a good faith,
reasonable interpretation of the law."
